This weekend I was present at the Mexican Mobile Consulate event in Fort Walton Beach, FL, and I heard issues that our local community is encountering. I would like to share information to the community:

  1. International Driver’s License is NOT recognized in the State of Florida as a valid driver’s license. If you are pulled over and present this form of identification it will not be accepted.
  2. Beware of Promises of Notarios. They are not allowed to give legal advice, nor are they regulated by a state agency. The wrong advice could harm your chances of staying in the United States, getting lawful status or becoming a U.S. Citizen. Don’t be fooled by notarios and other consultants who promise immediate results or special solutions in order to steal your money.  If you are unsure if someone is qualified to help, ask for proof of their credentials and retain a copy of that evidence. If you have been a victim of a notario, please report them to www.stopnotariofraud.org.
  3. An attorney in their home country does not mean they are authorized to practice law in the United States. Please check the Florida Bar (or the state they are licensed in) to see if they are admitted and are in good standing to practice law. Attorneys are regulated by a state agency and must follow rules and regulations to continue to practice law.

If you are having doubts or have questions, please seek advice from a qualified immigration attorney.
