“Swatting” engaño lleva a cargo de delito grave para adolescente de Crestview
CRESTVIEW, Fla. – La Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Okaloosa dice que un residente de Crestview de 13 años es acusado de un delito grave después por tomar parte en una llamada telefónica falsa informando que le había disparado dos veces a su madre y que iba a suicidarse.
La llamada llegó a la línea de no emergencia del Departamento de Policía de Crestview alrededor de las 10:30 de la mañana de pascua. Las unidades de OCSO respondieron y establecieron un perímetro alrededor de la residencia en Sharon Avenue. El Equipo de Respuesta Especial de la OCSO fue llamado a la escena después de que los agentes no pudieron establecer contacto o ver dentro de la casa. Hicieron la entrada y no encontraron a nadie allí.
Una investigación determinó que todas las partes relacionadas con el adolescente estaban vivas y bien. El informe de la OCSO dice que finalmente se estableció contacto con el niño de 13 años que admitió haber participado en el informe falso.
“La llamada resultó en una tremenda pérdida de tiempo y recursos para el cumplimiento de la ley,” señala el informe.
El niño está acusado de hacer un informe falso sobre el uso de un arma de fuego en un delito violento.
Este tipo de engaño se suele denominar “swatting” porque a menudo conlleva la participación de un SWAT o Equipo de Respuesta Especial.
La investigación está en curso.
“Swatting” hoax leads to felony charge for Crestview teen
CRESTVIEW, Fla. – The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says a 13-year old Crestview resident is charged with a felony after taking part in a hoax phone call reporting he had shot his mother twice and was going to kill himself.
The call came in to the Crestview Police Department’s non-emergency line around 10:30 Easter morning. OCSO units responded and set up a perimeter around the residence on Sharon Avenue. The OCSO Special Response Team was called to the scene after deputies were unable to establish contact or see inside the home. They made entry and found no one there.
An investigation determined all related parties to the teen were alive and well. The OCSO report says contact was ultimately made with the 13-year old who admitted taking part in the false report.
“The call resulted in a tremendous waste of law enforcement time and resources,” the report states.
The boy is charged with making a false report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent felony.
This type of hoax is typically referred to as “swatting” because it often leads to the involvement of a SWAT or Special Response Team.
The investigation is ongoing.
