La oficina del sheriff de Walton informa a BCC sobre las próximas vacaciones de primavera
CONDADO DE WALTON, Fla. – Durante una reunión de la Junta de Comisionados del Condado de Walton, el Jefe de Operaciones del Condado de Walton, Audie Rowell, actualizó al BCC del Condado de Walton sobre las actividades de las vacaciones de primavera. Dijo que la temporada comienza el 1 de marzo hasta mediados de abril y que la WCSO se está preparando diligentemente para posibles problemas.
El sheriff indicó que uno de los componentes importantes de sus preparativos es el aumento de personal. Durante lo que comúnmente se llama la “Semana de Houston” y la “Semana de Atlanta,” cuando el número de visitantes es mayor, el jefe Rowell dijo que su plan exige tener alrededor de 54 agentes listos en un momento dado.
“Cancelamos todos los días libres, incluido yo mismo. No estaré libre durante las vacaciones de primavera y tenemos puestos de tiempo adicional a los que los agentes se inscriben,” dijo Rowell. “Pero este año, sólo para darles una visión general de lo que estamos viendo en cuanto a horas adicionales, durante aproximadamente 44 días de vacaciones de primavera, vamos a tener poco más de mil puestos individuales con horas adicionales … Entonces, estaremos ocupados. Vamos a tener el personal y vamos a lidiar con las cosas que encontremos.”
Apuntar a áreas específicas y problemas de calidad de vida es otra parte de su plan operativo, dijo. Esto incluirá el acceso a Dogwood Beach cerca de Seaside, donde la Oficina del Sheriff tendrá personal adicional además de Rosemary Beach.
Rowell abordó la política de la agencia sobre el consumo de alcohol por parte de menores y las multitudes grandes e ingobernables.
“La mayoría de la gente conoce nuestra tolerancia es de cero con el consumo de alcohol entre menores de edad,” dijo. “También tenemos tolerancia cero con las multitudes grandes y rebeldes. Esas cosas se dispersarán y si es necesario hacer arrestos, se harán arrestos,” añadió.
Rowell también mencionó tener problemas con una gran cantidad de bicicletas en el derecho de paso en Seaside.
El jefe Rowell señaló que no hay toque de queda en las playas en este momento, pero la WCSO conserva la autoridad para promulgar un toque de queda a corto plazo si fuera necesario.
Walton sheriff’s office briefs BCC on upcoming Spring Break
WALTON COUNTY, Fla. – During a Walton County Board of County Commissioners meeting, Walton County Chief of Operations Audie Rowell updated the Walton County BCC regarding spring break activities. He said the season begins March 1 through mid-April, and the WCSO is diligently preparing for possible issues.
The sheriff indicated one of the important components in their preparations is increased staffing. During what it commonly called ‘Houston Week’ and the ‘Atlanta Week’ when visitor numbers are heaviest, Chief Rowell said their plan calls for having around 54 deputies out at any given time.
“We cancel all days off – that’s including myself. I won’t be taking off during Spring Break and we have overtime positions that deputies sign up for,” Rowell said. “But this year, just to kind of give you an overview of what we’re looking at overtime-wise, for about 44 days of Spring Break, we’re going to have just over a thousand individual overtime positions… So, we’re going to be busy. We’re going to have people out and we’re going to deal with the things we come across.”
Targeting specific areas and quality of life issues is another part of their operational plan, he said. This will include the Dogwood Beach Access near Seaside where the Sheriff’s Office will have additional staffing in addition to Rosemary Beach.
Rowell addressed the agency’s policy on underage drinking and large, unruly crowds.
“Most people know about our zero tolerance for underage drinking, he said. “We also have a zero tolerance for large, unruly crowds. Those things will be dispersed, and if arrests need to be made, arrests will be made,” he added.
Rowell also mentioned having problems with large numbers of bicycles in the right-of-way in Seaside.
Chief Rowell noted that there is no beach curfew at this time, but the WCSO does retain the authority to enact a short-term curfew should it become necessary.
