Mobile despeja el camino para que Amtrak regrese

MOBILE, Ala. – El Concejo Municipal de Mobile apoyó la restauración del Amtrax con seis votos a favor y uno en contra. $3 millones del gasto municipal de tres años fueron aprobados para devolver el servicio ferroviario a la Costa del Golfo.
2022 es el año calculado por los líderes de Amtrax para el regreso de los trenes.
“Hay mucho más trabajo por hacer como ustedes saben. Tenemos que preocuparnos por obtener el dinero de infraestructura necesario para que esto suceda,” dijo el portavoz de Amtrak, Marc Magliari.
El servicio ferroviario se detuvo en 2005 a causa del huracán Katrina que dañó las vías del tren de toda la región.
Sandy Stimpson, alcalde de Mobile, pidió al Concejo Municipal el apoyo al retorno del servicio ferroviario para pasajeros.
Por medio de un documento el alcalde comunicó que el objetivo de la restauración es brindar este servicio a los ciudadanos al tiempo que se protejan los intereses financieros de la ciudad y se garantice que este nuevo servicio no interferirá en el gran crecimiento del empleo que está experimentando la ciudad de Mobile.
Cuando se establezca el servicio de tren de pasajeros funcionará dos veces al día, los siete días de la semana entre Nueva Orleans y Mobile con paradas en Pascagoula, Biloxi, Gulfport y Bay St. Louis.
Los estados de Louisiana y Mississippi ya han comprometido millones. La Comisión de Ferrocarriles del Sur dijo que está solicitando casi $8 millones en fondos federales para el proyecto.
Amtrak, Norfolk Southern y CSX llevarán a cabo un estudio integral en donde se busca encontrar dónde se necesitan reparaciones y cómo los trenes de carga y de pasajeros pueden compartir una vía entre New Orleans y Mobile. Se espera que los resultados del estudio estén disponibles para finales del verano de 2020.
Mobile clears the way for Amtrak to return

MOBILE, Ala. – The Mobile City Council voted to supportethe restoration of Amtrax with six votes in favor and one against. $3 million of the three-year municipal expenditure was approved to return the rail service to the Gulf Coast.
2022 is the year estimated by Amtrax leaders for the return of trains.
“There is much more work to do as you know. We have to worry about getting the necessary infrastructure money to make this happen,” said Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari.
The rail service stopped in 2005 because of Hurricane Katrina that damaged the railroad tracks throughout the region.
Sandy Stimpson, Mayor of Mobile, asked the City Council to support the return of rail passenger service.
Through a document, the Mayor informed that the purpose of the restoration is to provide this service to citizens while protecting the financial interests of the city and ensuring that this new service will not interfere with the great growth in employment that is experiencing the city of Mobile.
When the passenger train service is established it will operate twice a day, seven days a week between New Orleans and Mobile with stops at Pascagoula, Biloxi, Gulfport and Bay St. Louis.
The states of Louisiana and Mississippi have already committed millions. The Southern Railroad Commission said it is requesting almost $8 million in federal funds for the project.
Amtrak, Norfolk Southern and CSX will carry out a comprehensive study that seeks to find where repairs are needed and how freight and passenger trains can share a route between New Orleans and Mobile. The results of the study are expected to be available by the end of summer 2020.
