Gulf Power compromete más equipos para ayudar a restaurar la electricidad en Puerto Rico
Gulf Power una vez más se une a su compañía matriz, Southern Company, para enviar más miembros de equipo a Puerto Rico para ayudar en el proceso de restauración masivo después de la devastación del huracán María que prácticamente aniquiló toda la energía de la isla en septiembre pasado. Algunos no han tenido electricidad desde que el huracán Irma impactó el área más temprano ese mismo mes.
Once empleados de Gulf Power son parte de un equipo de Southern Company que incluye a Mississippi Power, Alabama Power y Georgia Power, uniéndose a miles de otros trabajadores de servicios públicos de todo el país que colaboran con la restauración.
“María fue devastadora para la isla y nuestro equipo está comprometido a ayudar a restaurar la electricidad y la esperanza,” dijo Adrianne Collins, vicepresidenta de Power Delivery.
Los empleados de Gulf Power volaron a Puerto Rico el sábado 20 de enero, donde pasarán aproximadamente 45 días montando postes, tendiendo cables e instalando infraestructura.
“Ayudarnos unos a otros después de los fenómenos meteorológicos severos es lo que hacemos,” dijo Collins. “Los equipos de Gulf Power están listos para la tormenta para manejar el difícil trabajo en Puerto Rico en este esfuerzo de asistencia mutua.”
A fines de diciembre, seis camiones Gulf Power fueron cargados en barcazas en Mobile, Alabama junto con vehículos de otros servicios públicos para ser transportados a Puerto Rico antes que el equipo.
Varios otros empleados de Gulf Power se desplegaron en Puerto Rico anteriormente, trabajando para determinar el daño y ayudar a desarrollar un plan de restauración coordinado. Shelley Scarborough, gerente de operaciones del Distrito Este, recientemente regresó de pasar un mes allí planificando y ayudando a establecer un sitio de preparación para el equipo entrante.
“Parte del trabajo que ha establecido Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority será un buen trabajo para nuestro equipo, y espero que los equipos lleguen allí y marquen la diferencia,” dijo. “La gente es muy amable y extremadamente receptiva con nosotros, los residentes y la PREPA.”
Casi cuatro meses después de María, cientos de miles de clientes permanecen sin electricidad y 1.500 trabajadores de restauración de diversos servicios públicos están llegando a la isla este mes para acelerar el proceso de restauración.
Gulf Power commits more crews to help restore power in Puerto Rico
Gulf Power is once again joining its parent company, Southern Company, in sending more team members to Puerto Rico to assist in the massive restoration process following Hurricane Maria’s devastation that virtually wiped out all power to the island last September. Some have not had power since Hurricane Irma impacted the area earlier that same month.
Eleven Gulf Power employees are part of a Southern Company team including Mississippi Power, Alabama Power and Georgia Power — joining thousands of other utility workers from across the nation assisting with restoration.
“Maria was devastating to the island and our team is committed to help restore power and hope,” Adrianne Collins, Vice President Power Delivery said.
Gulf Power employees flew to Puerto Rico on Saturday, Jan. 20, where they will spend approximately 45 days setting poles, pulling wire and installing infrastructure.
“Aiding each other following severe weather events is what we do,” said Collins. “Gulf Power crews are storm-ready to handle the difficult job in Puerto Rico in this mutual assistance effort.”
In late December, six Gulf Power trucks were loaded onto barges in Mobile, Alabama along with vehicles from other utilities to be ferried to Puerto Rico ahead of the team.
Several other Gulf Power employees deployed in Puerto Rico earlier, working to determine the damage and help develop a coordinated restoration plan. Shelley Scarborough, Eastern District operations manager, recently returned from spending a month there planning and helping to set up a staging site for the incoming team.
“Some of the work Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority has laid out will be good work for our team, and I’m looking forward to the crews getting there and making a difference,” she said. “Folks there are so nice and extremely receptive of us being there — the residents and PREPA.”
Nearly four months after Maria, hundreds of thousands of customers remain without power as 1,500 restoration workers from various utilities are pouring onto the island this month to ramp up the restoration process.
