El jefe de policía de Pensacola, Tommi Lyter, se retira después de 30 años de servicio
PENSACOLA, Fla. – El Jefe de Policía de Pensacola, Tommi Lyter, anunció su retiro del Departamento de Policía de Pensacola después de 30 años de servicio y asumirá el cargo de Jefe Adjunto en la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Escambia.
El jefe Lyter comenzó su carrera en el Departamento de Policía de Pensacola como oficial de policía en agosto del 1990 y fue nombrado Jefe de Policía el 11 de mayo del 2017. Antes de desempeñarse como jefe, fue ascendido a sargento en el 2003, ascendido a teniente en el 2006, a capitán en el 2014 y subdirector en el 2015.
“A medida que me acerco a mi retiro del Departamento de Policía de Pensacola, estoy agradecido por varias cosas,” dijo el jefe Lyter. “He podido servir a la comunidad que amo por más de 30 años y trabajo con algunos de los mejores oficiales de ley de nuestra profesión. Estoy especialmente agradecido por mi personal durante mi comando quienes han servido y continúan sirviendo con excelencia durante mi mandato. El pasado año ha sido especialmente difícil para las fuerzas del orden; sin embargo, sé que el Departamento de Policía de Pensacola y la Ciudad de Pensacola están en buenas manos mientras el alcalde y su equipo buscan al próximo jefe de policía.”
El subjefe Kevin Christman será nombrado jefe interino de la policía mientras una empresa de búsqueda llevará a cabo una búsqueda a nivel nacional para el próximo jefe de policía del Departamento de Policía de Pensacola.
El último día del jefe Lyter con el Departamento de Policía de Pensacola será el 27 de diciembre y su primer día como jefe adjunto es el 5 de enero.
Pensacola Police Chief Tommi Lyter Retiring after 30 Years of Service
PENSACOLA, Fla. – Pensacola Police Chief Tommi Lyter has announced his retirement from the Pensacola Police Department after 30 years of service and will take on the role of Chief Deputy at the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Lyter began his career with Pensacola Police Department as a police officer in August 1990 and was appointed Chief of Police on May 11, 2017. Before serving as chief, he was promoted to sergeant in 2003, promoted to lieutenant in 2006, to captain in 2014 and to assistant chief in 2015.
“As I approach my retirement from the Pensacola Police Department, I am thankful for several things,” Chief Lyter said. “I have been able to serve for over 30 years in a community that I love, and work with some of the finest law enforcement officers in the profession. I am especially thankful for my command staff that have served, and continue to serve, with excellence during my tenure. The past year has been especially difficult for law enforcement; however, I know that the Pensacola Police Department and the City of Pensacola are in safe hands while the mayor and his team search for the next police chief.”
Deputy Chief Kevin Christman will be named the interim Chief of Police while a search firm to conducts a nationwide search for the next Chief of Police for the Pensacola Police Department.
Chief Lyter’s last day with the Pensacola Police Department will be Dec. 27 and his first day as chief deputy is January 5.
