La siguiente es una declaración de Ana Delia Espino, directora ejecutiva de la Coalición de Alabama por la Justicia de los Inmigrantes, en respuesta a los resultados de las elecciones generales 2020:
“Con el resultado de estas elecciones, queda demostrado una vez más que el voto Latino representa un papel importante en la democracia de nuestro país. Aunque los resultados todavía no son oficiales, estamos muy orgullosos de nuestra comunidad al ver una masiva presencia histórica en las urnas participando activamente en la democracia de la nación.
Reconocemos el arduo trabajo realizado en todo el pais por los líderes comunitarios latinos, negros, y de otras minorías que movilizaron a sus comunidades para registrar nuevos votantes y alentarlos a participar activamente en su futuro.
Nos mantenemos optimistas y esperanzados con los resultados de las elecciones presidenciales, pues este resultado solo fortalece nuestra determinación de luchar más duro por las comunidades marginadas. Confiamos en que esta administración trabaje inmediatamente deshaciendo las acciones ejecutivas antiinmigrantes de la presente administración y que finalmente entregue una reforma migratoria que proteja y garantice una atmósfera pro-inmigrante para nuestras comunidades de inmigrantes que mantenga a las familias juntas, libres y seguras.
Ahora haremos que el nuevo gobierno rinda cuentas, no sólo para abordar las crisis que creó el actual gobierno, sino para hacer de este un lugar donde todos podamos prosperar.
Queremos que nuestra comunidad sepa que el resultado de esta elección no afecta nuestra misión: seguimos trabajando juntos por los derechos y la dignidad de todas las personas en Alabama.”
The following is a statement by Ana Delia Espino, executive director of the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice, in reaction to the 2020 general elections results:
“With the result of the elections, it is demonstrated once again that the Latino vote plays an important role in the democracy of our country. Although the results are not yet official, we are very proud of our community to see a historic mass turnout at the polls actively participating in the nation’s democracy.
We recognize the hard work done across the country by Latino, Black, and other minority community leaders who mobilized their communities to register new voters and encourage them to actively participate in their future.
While we are optimistic and hopeful about the results of the presidential elections, this result only strengthens our resolve to fight harder for marginalized communities. We trust this administration will work immediately to undo the anti-immigrant executive actions of the current administration and to finally deliver an immigration reform that protects and guarantees a pro-immigrant atmosphere for our immigrant communities to keep families together, free and safe.
We will now hold the new government to account, not only to address the crises that the current government created, but to make this a place where we can all prosper.
We want our community to know that the outcome of this election does not affect our mission: to work together for the rights and dignity of all people in Alabama.”
