UWF Historic Trust presenta pabellón de trenes
PENSACOLA, Fla. – El University of West Florida Historic Trust recibió una donación de $110,000 de la familia McMillan y $400,000 del patrimonio de la difunta Barbara Goggins en un esfuerzo por mejorar la exhibición de trenes y el espacio al aire libre alrededor del Museo de la Industria. La nueva zona de la marquesina de trenes incluye una locomotora y un vagón plano que antes eran propiedad de T.R. Miller Mill Company, así como un furgón de cola de L&N. El nuevo espacio se llamará Pabellón de Trenes Barbara Goggins en reconocimiento a su apoyo al proyecto.
“Estamos increíblemente agradecidos a nuestros generosos donantes por su apoyo para hacer realidad la restauración de nuestro tren histórico,” dijo Rob Overton, director ejecutivo de UWF Historic Trust. “Sus contribuciones no solo han preservado una parte de la historia de nuestra comunidad, sino que también han enriquecido nuestro sitio del museo con una nueva y atractiva exhibición interactiva. Esta restauración sin duda mejorará la experiencia del visitante y brindará una conexión más profunda con nuestro pasado.”
Hace más de 50 años, el UWF Historic Trust adquirió la locomotora y el vagón plataforma de la T.R. Miller Mill Company como una ampliación del Museo de la Industria. Desde entonces, la locomotora se encuentra fuera del museo y cientos de miles de visitantes la han visto y disfrutado. En el 2023, la necesidad de restaurar la locomotora y el vagón plataforma era evidente y el UWF Historic Trust necesitaba ayuda para financiar la restauración. El nuevo proyecto de restauración incluye un dosel, paneles interpretativos sobre el tren y una locomotora renovada para que los visitantes puedan caminar por ella.
“Nuestra familia está orgullosa de ver que nuestras contribuciones se ponen en práctica en apoyo de este proyecto de restauración,” dijo Tom McMillan. “Esperamos que muchos visitantes disfruten de este nuevo espacio interactivo durante los próximos años.”
UWF Historic Trust Unveils Train Pavilion
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida Historic Trust received a $110,000 gift from the McMillan family and $400,000 from the late Barbara Goggins estate in efforts to enhance the train exhibition and improve the outdoor space around the Museum of Industry. The new train canopy area includes a locomotive and flat car formerly owned by the T.R. Miller Mill Company as well as an L&N caboose. The new space will be named the Barbara Goggins Train Pavilion in recognition of her support of the project.
“We are incredibly grateful to our generous donors for their support in making the restoration of our historic train a reality,” said Rob Overton, executive director of UWF Historic Trust. “Their contributions have not only preserved a piece of our community’s history but have also enriched our museum site with a new and engaging interactive exhibit. This restoration will undoubtedly enhance the visitor experience and provide a deeper connection to our past.”
More than 50 years ago, the UWF Historic Trust acquired the locomotive and flat car from the T.R. Miller Mill Company as an addition to the Museum of Industry. Since that time, the engine sat outside of the museum and was viewed and enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of visitors. In 2023, the need for restoration of the locomotive and flat car was evident and the UWF Historic Trust needed assistance to fund the restoration. The new restoration project includes a canopy, interpretive panels about the train and a refurbished engine for visitors to walk into.
“Our family is proud to see our contributions put to work in support of this restoration project,” said Tom McMillan. “We hope this new, interactive space will be enjoyed by many visitors for years to come.”
