Público invitado a la dedicación del marcador histórico de Bayou Texar el 2 de noviembre
PENSACOLA, Fla. – La ciudad de Pensacola invita a la comunidad a una ceremonia de dedicación el jueves 2 de noviembre a las 2 p.m. para conmemorar la inauguración del último marcador histórico de la comunidad, “Batalla y masacre en Bayou Texar”.
El marcador histórico sirve como monumento a las mujeres y niños nativos americanos que perdieron la vida durante la batalla y masacre en Bayou Texar en el 1818. La ceremonia de dedicación se llevará a cabo en Bayview Park, ubicado en 2001 E. Lloyd St.
La batalla y masacre en Bayou Texar fue un trágico evento en la historia de Pensacola donde casi 30 mujeres y niños Muscogee fueron asesinados por las fuerzas estadounidenses. El ataque fue un punto fundamental en el cierre de la Primera Guerra Seminole, contribuyendo a que el general del ejército estadounidense Andrew Jackson marchara con sus tropas hacia el oeste, capturara Pensacola y expulsara a los españoles de Florida.
El marcador histórico fue creado gracias a los esfuerzos de colaboración de la ciudad de Pensacola, el condado de Escambia, Santa Rosa Band of the Lower Muscogee, UWF Historic Trust y el Departamento de Estado de Florida.

Public Invited to Bayou Texar Historic Marker Dedication Nov. 2
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The City of Pensacola invites the community to a dedication ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. to commemorate the unveiling of the community’s latest historical marker, “Battle and Massacre at Bayou Texar.”
The historic marker serves as a memorial for the Native American women and children who lost their lives during the Battle and Massacre at Bayou Texar in 1818. The dedication ceremony will take place at Bayview Park, located at 2001 E. Lloyd St.
The Battle and Massacre at Bayou Texar was a tragic event in Pensacola’s history where nearly 30 Muscogee women and children were killed by American forces. The attack was a pivotal point at the closing of the First Seminole War — contributing to U.S. Army General Andrew Jackson marching his troops westward, capturing Pensacola and driving the Spanish out of Florida.
The historic marker was created through the collaborative efforts of the City of Pensacola, Escambia County, Santa Rosa Band of the Lower Muscogee, UWF Historic Trust, and Florida Department of State.
