Piece by Piece: Art with LEGO® Bricks
Pensacola, Fla. – The Pensacola Museum of Art announces the opening of “Piece by Piece: Art with LEGO® Bricks,” which will be on display from May 12 through Sept. 3. The exhibition features sculptures, scale models, wall murals and functional items for the home, all created by artist Sean Kenney using everyday LEGO pieces.
“Piece by Piece: Art with LEGO® Bricks” emphasizes the nostalgia of childhood created by playing with toys. Rubber ducks, robots, tricycles and bicycles all work together to bring the memories back to life. “As an artist, I love being able to use something that is so familiar to create original works that are thought-provoking, inspiring, colorful and fun,” says Kenney. “It is my goal to inspire kids – and big kids – to create something great themselves.” The exhibit, and Kenney’s work in general, represent the passion, fandom and camaraderie that Kenney has with LEGO fans, young and old.
His work starts out as a sketch, and through engineering, design and creativity Sean captures the more than just the shape of the original. The essence of the original piece is captured with LEGO bricks.
Located at 407 S. Jefferson St. in historic downtown Pensacola, the Pensacola Museum of Art is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
