MOBILE, Ala.—El 16 de julio, venezolanos de todo el mundo se organizaron para votar—sólo simbólicamente—contra el plan del presidente Nicolás Maduro de reescribir la Constitución. En UnidadVenezuela.org, las urnas electorales de todo el mundo se encuentran inscritas en la lista, con una misión de solidaridad, igualdad, progreso y paz en su amado país. Los venezolanos de toda la Costa del Golfo hicieron oír su voz a través de los centros de votación facilitados en Mobile, Ala., Ft. Walton Beach y Tallahassee, Florida. Daniela de Castro Sucre, originaria de Caracas, vive en Pensacola e hizo el viaje a Fort Walton Beach para votar. Una estación de votación fue facilitada en Walton Sail & Power Squadron en Green Acres Rd. Los votantes presentaron sus tarjetas de identificación o pasaportes venezolanos antes de votar “sí” o “no” a tres preguntas en una papeleta de votación, confirmada con una huella digital. “Para mí y muchos otros, fue una cuestión de necesidad,” dijo Sucre. “La mejor manera para que la oposición en Venezuela tenga voz contra el gobierno es mostrar fuerza en número. Fue especialmente importante para los venezolanos que viven fuera del país mostrar solidaridad y apoyo. Las expectativas de los votantes de la votación que tuvo lugar hace un mes fue principalmente para demostrar que hay un gran porcentaje de la población que absolutamente no está de acuerdo con la creación de esta asamblea. Es inconstitucional, y abiertamente marca al gobierno venezolano como una dictadura,” agregó Sucre dijo que el proceso de votación en Fort Walton Beach sólo duró diez minutos, pero muchas personas se quedaron horas escuchando los acentos y música del uno al otro mientras se conocían. Aunque las elecciones no fueron oficiales, millones de venezolanos alrededor de la palabra esperan que el mensaje sea escuchado alto y claro que no quieren una nueva constitución o una dictadura para Venezuela. Venezuelans throughout the Gulf Coast made their voices heard through polling stations facilitated in Mobile, Ala., Ft. Walton Beach and Tallahassee, Fla. Daniela de Castro Sucre, originally of Caracas, lives in Pensacola and made the trip to Fort Walton Beach to vote. A voting station was facilitated at Walton Sail & Power Squadron on Green Acres Rd. Voters presented their Venezuelan identification cards or passports before they voted “yes” or “no” to three questions on a paper ballot, confirmed with a thumbprint. “For me and many others, it was a matter of necessity,” Sucre said. “The best way for the opposition in Venezuela to have a voice against the government is to show strength in numbers. It was especially important for Venezuelans living outside of the country to show solidarity and support. The expectations of the voters from the vote that took place a month ago was mainly to show that there is a large percentage of the population that absolutely disagrees with the creation of this assembly. It is unconstitutional, and openly brands the Venezuelan government as a dictatorship,” she added Sucre said the (voting) process in Fort Walton Beach took only ten minutes, but many people stayed for hours listening to each other’s accents and music as they got to know one another.
