Latinas en el Sur reconocidas por sus contribuciones comunitarias

Las latinas en el sur de Alabama y el noroeste de Florida están siendo reconocidas por su liderazgo en sus comunidades y profesiones. Más que nunca, las latinas están creando iniciativas y siendo reconocidas por el ejemplo y la abogacía que apoyan. Éstas son sólo algunas de ellas:

Margarita Vázquez, vicepresidenta regional de Primerica, es presidenta de membresía de la Cámara de Comercio del Condado de Santa Rosa. En febrero, Vázquez fue galardonada como Embajadora del Año 2022.

Leida JavierLa Dra. Leida Javier-Ferrell, presidenta de Javier-Calametti, LLC y la Asociación de Negocios Hispanoamericanos de la Costa del Golfo fue reconocida como una de las homenajeadas de Mujeres Que Dan Forma Al Estado en 2023. El reconocimiento organizado por This is Alabama, una organización que comparte historias sobre personas, lugares y experiencias sobresalientes en todo el estado, dice que sus homenajeados comparten el mismo objetivo de hacer de sus comunidades mejores lugares para vivir.

Grace Resendez McCaffery, presidenta de Latino Media Gulf Coast/Periódico La Costa Latina, recibió el premio Viviendo el Sueño, el evento insignia de Pensacola que celebra el legado del Dr. Martin Luther King. Los homenajeados fueron reconocidos por sus contribuciones para apoyar la diversidad y la igualdad y el compromiso con el liderazgo progresista el pasado enero.

Geraldyn MartinezGeraldyn Martinez, propietaria de Lumi Pod Photo Booth con sede en Shalimar, recibió el premio Mujer del año (WOTY) en la categoría de Arte y Entretenimiento. Celebrado por la revista Scarlett, los ganadores fueron nominados por su fuerza, independencia, confiabilidad, mentalidad abierta, valentía y determinación. También se les describe como trabajadoras y enérgicas.

Monica Sanford apareció en Bella Magazine por su trabajo como enfermera practicante de cardiología y defensora de la educación, la concientización y la investigación continua y la financiación de las enfermedades cardíacas. Se ha presentado en conferencias y seminarios de cardiología locales, estatales y nacionales enseñando sobre la presión arterial, el corazón y la concientización sobre los accidentes cerebrovasculares. Además, Sanford ha atendido a pacientes de cardiología durante casi diez años, es la directora de educación de Mended Little Hearts of Pensacola, que brinda apoyo a las familias de niños que nacen con defectos cardíacos congénitos, y presenta un podcast llamado “The Monica Sanford Show.”

Latinas in South Alabama and Northwest Florida are being recognized for their leadership in their communities and professions. More than ever, Latinas are creating initiatives and being acknowledged for the example and advocacy they support. Here are just a few of them:

Margarita VazquezMargarita Vazquez, regional vice president for Primerica, is the membership chair for the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce. In February, Vazquez was awarded the Ambassador of the Year for 2022.

Dr. Leida Javier-Ferrell, president of Javier-Calametti, LLC and the Hispanic American Business Association of the Gulf Coast was recognized as one of the 2023 Women Who Shape the State honorees. The recognition organized by This is Alabama, an organization that shares stories about outstanding people, places and experiences around the state says their honorees share the same goal of making their communities better places to live.

Grace Resendez McCaffery 2023Grace Resendez McCaffery, president of Latino Media Gulf Coast / La Costa Latina Newspaper, was presented with a Living the Dream award, Pensacola’s signature event for celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy. Honorees were recognized for their contributions to supporting diversity and equality and commitment to progressive leadership in January.

Geraldyn Martinez, owner of Lumi Pod Photo Booth based in Shalimar, was awarded a Woman of the Year (WOTY) award in the category of Arts and Entertainment. Celebrated by Scarlett Magazine, winners were nominated for their strength, independence, reliability, open mindedness, bravery and determination. They are also described as hard-working and spirited.

Monica Sanford was featured in Bella Magazine for her work as a cardiology nurse practitioner and an advocate for education, awareness and continued research and funding for heart disease. She has presented at local, state and national cardiology conferences and seminars teaching about blood pressure, cardiac and stroke awareness. Additionally, Sanford has served cardiology patients for nearly ten years, is the education director for Mended Little Hearts of Pensacola that provides support to families of children born with congenital heart defects, and hosts a podcast called, “The Monica Sanford Show.”
