Juez toma la decisión de mantener DACA
Washington, DC—En una decisión inesperada, el juez federal Andrew Hanen denegó la solicitud del estado de bloquear el programa Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) en un intento desesperado por evitar que los Dreamers permanezca en el país donde crecieron. Los republicanos intencionalmente se fueron ante Hanen, el juez derechista que detuvo las protecciones para los padres de ciudadanos a través del programa DAPA. Sin embargo, Hanen falló a favor de DACA por dos razones principales: la solicitud llegó demasiado tarde y podría dañar al público. Para Dreamers como yo que tenemos hijos, la amenaza constante de perder nuestra única oportunidad de permanecer con nuestras familias es extremadamente estresante. Antes de tener DACA, me sentía menos que una persona porque no tenía los mismos derechos. Ahora tengo un trabajo para mantener a mis hijos, una licencia de conducir y el derecho a vivir una vida normal con mi familia sin miedo. Esta debería ser la realidad para cualquiera que intente criar una familia aquí.”

Judge Makes Decision to Keep DACA
Washington, DC—In an unexpected decision, Texas federal Judge Andrew Hanen denied the state’s request to block the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program In a desperate attempt to stop Dreamers from staying in the country they grew up in. Republicans intentionally went before Hanen, the right-wing judge who stopped protections for parents of citizens through the DAPA program. However, Hanen ruled to in favor of DACA for two main reasons: the request came too late and it could harm the public. This decision is a temporary reprieve for DACA recipients but a permanent solution is needed to protect the program long-term.
Women and mothers from the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA), shared the following statements.
Laura Peniche, DACA recipient, mother of three, living in Colorado:
“This lifts a weight off my shoulders. DACA is the only protection I have against deportation and now I don’t have to be worried that I might lose it. For Dreamers like me who have children, the constant threat of losing our only opportunity to stay with our families is extremely stressful. Before having DACA, I felt less than a person because I didn’t have the same rights. Now I have a job to support my children, a driver’s license, and the right to live a normal life with my family free from fear. This should be the reality for anyone trying to raise a family here.”

“This ruling means that millions of DREAMERS can stay in the only country they’ve ever known for at least a little while longer. Still, the Trump Administration and Republicans at all levels of government are doing everything they can in the courts to break up families and force children to leave their home country of America. We are committed to standing with the DREAMERS and fighting these inhumane efforts to separate families and disrupt the lives of hundreds of thousands of kids.”

“We are surprised with this decision coming from a judge that had previously blocked protections for millions of parents and Dreamers. But this is a happy moment for my sons and me. They, and one million of Dreamers, can now live a more certain future. But we know that this temporary unless Congress acts. We must keep fighting for a permanent solution.”
