HABAGC otorga beca a estudiante de enfermería
La Asociación Empresarial Hispanoamericana de la Costa del Golfo en Mobile otorgó una beca este mes. La beca educativa de $1,500 se le otorgó a María López quien recientemente comenzó a asistir clases en la Universidad del Sur de Alabama.
“Comencé la clase el martes de esta semana y hasta ahora, ¡me encanta!” López dijo. “Mi aspiración es encontrar un campo en la enfermería que me encantará hacer mientras retribuyo a mi comunidad.”
Nacida en La Habana, Cuba, López se graduó de Murphy High School y dice que quiere ser enfermera porque le encanta trabajar con la gente y quiere que las personas necesitadas se sientan bienvenidas y atendidas.
“Poder hablar español me da la oportunidad de darles a quienes no dominan muy bien el inglés la oportunidad de sentirse comprendidos y atendidos por alguien en quien pueden confiar,” dijo. “Por eso en el futuro quiero trabajar en una especialidad de pediatría o familia.”
López agregó que espera ser una inspiración para las personas que provienen de familias trabajadoras para que también retribuyan en sus comunidades.
HABAGC awards scholarship to nursing student
The Hispanic-American Business Association of the Gulf Coast in Mobile awarded a scholarship this month. The $1,500 educational scholarship was awarded to Marìa Lopez recently started attending classes at the University of South Alabama.
“I began class on Tuesday of this week, and so far, I love it!” Lopez said. “My aspiration is to find a field in nursing that I will love doing while giving back to my community.”
Born in Habana, Cuba, Lopez graduated from Murphy High School and says she wants to become a nurse because she loves working with people and wants people in need to feel welcomed and taken care of.
“Being able to speak Spanish gives me the opportunity to give those who don’t manage English very well a chance to feel understood and taken care of by someone they can trust,” she said. “That’s why in the future I want to work in a pediatrics or family specialty.”
Lopez added that she hopes to be an inspiration to people that come from hard-working families to give back to their communities.
