Festival Internacional de Pensacola State College programado para el 15 de abril
PENSACOLA, Fla. – El pancit filipino, los percusionistas africanos, el baile polinesio del hula, las melodías de gaitas irlandesas y una exhibición de bonsáis japoneses estarán entre las muchas ofertas en el Festival Internacional del Colegio Estatal de Pensacola de 2023.
Programado de 11 a. m. a 6 p. m. el sábado 15 de abril, el festival transformará el campus de Pensacola de la universidad en un bazar de alimentos, entretenimiento y mercancías de todo el mundo.
“Comida japonesa, comida del Medio Oriente, comida griega, comida polaca, comida filipina, comida mexicana, comida caribeña de inspiración puertorriqueña, comida italiana: usted nombre la cultura y estará representada aquí en nuestro Festival Internacional,” dijo Juanita Scott copresidente del festival y director de personal y desarrollo profesional de PSC.
Larry Watson Jr. encabezará el entretenimiento. El cantante inspirado en New School Motown actuará a las 3 p.m. en el escenario principal del festival. La banda MyxTape interpretará los favoritos del pop y la música filipina en tagalo.
“También tendremos danza del vientre de Oriente Medio, la banda de gaitas de pub irlandesa de McGuire, bailes folclóricos italianos, los bailarines del Movimiento Soulful, los percusionistas de Okinawa de la Costa Esmeralda y los bailarines japoneses de Miyabi, solo por nombrar algunos,” dijo Scott, y agregó el Coro de Embajadores del Coro Infantil de Pensacola y la Compañía de Teatro Infantil de Pensacola también actuarán.
Hasta el momento, más de 30 vendedores tendrán puestos que ofrecen de todo, desde productos naturales para el cuidado de la piel hasta joyería Name on Rice y un fotomatón de 360 International.
Kathy Van Dyck, presidenta del festival y jefa adjunta del Departamento de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales de PSC, señaló que aún se necesitan patrocinadores, proveedores, artistas y expositores.
Agregó que el evento familiar tiene algo para todos, que incluye:
- Una Aldea Infantil con actividades como pintura de caras, un zoológico interactivo, vendedores de libros y recursos educativos.
- Military Lounge con información sobre los programas de Pensacola State College y los recursos comunitarios disponibles para los miembros del servicio activo, los veteranos y sus dependientes.
- Salón de Salud y Bienestar con información sobre el bienestar de la mente, el cuerpo y el alma.
“A la entrada del festival, incluso proporcionamos Pasaportes de Invitados del Festival Internacional para ayudar a guiar a los visitantes a los diferentes continentes,” dijo Van Dyck. “Se alentará a los asistentes a que sellen sus pasaportes en cada parada.”
Scott dijo que los programas de la fuerza laboral del estado de Pensacola (carpintería, soldadura, cosmetología y terapia de masajes) se exhibirán en el festival, y agregó que habrá representantes disponibles para responder preguntas sobre la inscripción en PSC.
Como parte del Festival Internacional, WSRE PBS será el anfitrión del PSC Spanish Film Festival ─ proyecciones de cinco películas de la serie Pragda Spanish Film Club. Las películas se mostrarán en la pantalla grande en el Jean and Paul Amos Performance Studio a partir de las 10 a. m. La entrada es gratuita.

- “Cacu: Un Cambio de Vida” del director Marvin Del Cid a las 10 a.m.
- “In the Heights” de Jon M. Chu a las 11:30 a.m.
- “Hasta la lluvia” de Icíar Bollaín a las 2:15 p.m.
- “Me llamo Gennet” de Miguel Ángel Tobías a las 4:15 p.m.
- “La Reina de España” de Fernando Trueba a las 6:00 p.m.
El festival de cine fue financiado en parte por una subvención del Spanish Film Club otorgada al Colegio. Las películas fueron seleccionadas del ciclo Cine Club Español, posible gracias al apoyo de Pragda, SPAIN arts & culture, y la Secretaría de Estado de Cultura de España.
Scott dijo que los planes incluyen hacer del festival un evento anual, eventualmente de dos o tres días.
“Queremos incorporar más entretenimiento, exhibiciones y proveedores para expandir las oportunidades de aprendizaje para la comunidad,” señaló Scott. “A medida de que crezca el festival, la universidad espera atraer a más patrocinadores que crearán becas para estudiantes en el futuro.”

Pensacola State College’s International Festival scheduled for April 15
PENSACOLA, Fla. – Filipino pancit, African drummers, Polynesian Hula Dancing, Irish bagpipe tunes and a Japanese bonsai exhibit will be among the many offerings at the 2023 Pensacola State College International Festival.
Set for 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, the festival will transform the College’s Pensacola campus into a bazaar of global foods, entertainment and merchandise.
“Japanese food, Middle Eastern food, Greek food, Polish food, Filipino food, Mexican food, Puerto Rican-inspired Caribbean food, Italian food – you name the culture, and it will be represented here at our International Festival,” said Juanita Scott, festival co-chairman and PSC director of Staff and Professional Development.
Larry Watson Jr. will headline the entertainment. The New School Motown-inspired singer will perform at 3 p.m. on the festival’s main stage. The MyxTape band will perform pop favorites and Filipino music in Tagalog.
“We’ll also have belly dancing from the Middle East, McGuire’s Irish Pub Pipe Band, Italian folk dancing, the Soulful Movement dancers, the Emerald Coast Okinawan drummers, and Japanese Miyabi dancers, just to name a few,” Scott said, adding the Pensacola Children’s Chorus Ambassadors Choir and Pensacola Children’s Theater Company also will perform.
So far, more than 30 vendors will have booths offering everything from natural skincare products to Name on Rice Jewelry to a 360 International photo booth.
Kathy Van Dyck, the festival chairwoman and PSC Humanities and Social Sciences Assistant Department head, noted that sponsors, vendors, performers and exhibitors are still needed.
She added the family-friendly event has something for everyone, including:
- A Children’s Village with activities such as face painting, a petting zoo, books, and educational resources vendors.
- Military Lounge with information on Pensacola State College programs and community resources available to active-duty service members, veterans and their dependents.
- Health and Wellness Lounge with information on the well-being of the mind, body and soul.
“At the entrance to the festival, we’re even providing International Festival Guest Passports to help guide visitors to the different continents,” Van Dyck said. “Attendees will be encouraged to get their passports stamped at each stop.”
Scott said that Pensacola State workforce programs ─ Carpentry, Welding, Cosmetology and Massage Therapy – will be showcased at the festival, adding representatives will be on hand to answer questions about enrolling in PSC.
As part of the International Festival, WSRE PBS will host the PSC Spanish Film Festival ─ screenings of five films from the Pragda Spanish Film Club series. The movies will be shown on the big screen in the Jean and Paul Amos Performance Studio starting at 10 a.m. Admission is free.

The film festival was partly funded by a Spanish Film Club grant awarded to the College. The films were selected from the Spanish Film Club series made possible with the support of Pragda, SPAIN arts & culture, and the Secretary of State for Culture of Spain.
Scott said plans include making the festival an annual event – eventually a two- or three-day affair.
“We want to incorporate more entertainment, exhibits, and vendors to expand the learning opportunities for the community,” Scott noted. “As the festival grows, the College hopes to attract more sponsors who will create scholarships for students in the future.”
