Emotivo Reencuentro entre Padres Veracruzanos y sus Hijos en Alabama
La tarde del sábado 7 de diciembre, fue una tarde llena de alegría y lágrimas cuando 21 padres veracruzanos se reunieron con sus hijos después de no verlos hasta por más de 20 años.
Gracias al programa ”Abrazando Nuestras Raíces” de la Coalición de Alabama por la Justicia de los Inmigrantes (ACIJ), los padres viajaron del estado de Veracruz hasta Birmingham, Ala. donde los esperaban con ansias sus hijos y nietos.
En un salón lleno, 18 familias se reunieron. Los abuelos fueron recibidos con flores y globos de manos de sus nietos, a los que nunca habían visto en persona.
El trabajo coordinado entre los programas “Abrazando Nuestras Raíces” de ACIJ y “Con Raíces Veracruzanas” tiene como misión reunir a familias en las cuales los padres tienen años sin ver a sus hijos, ya que éstos no pueden viajar a México debido a su situación migratoria.
En el evento se contó con la presencia del Lic. Carlos Calderón, director general del Departamento de Atención e Información a Migrantes del Estado de Veracruz.
Éste es el primer grupo que “Abrazando Nuestras Raíces” recibe en Alabama y se está trabajando en la conformación de grupos de otros estados de México. ACIJ estará ofreciendo sesiones informativas sobre este programa en diferentes ciudades del Estado de Alabama, a fin de que más familias puedan beneficiarse de este programa de reunificación familiar.
Emotional reunion between Veracruzanos parents and their children in Alabama
The afternoon of Saturday, December 7 was full of joy and tears when 21 parents from Veracruz met with their children after not seeing them for more than 20 years.
Thanks to the “Embracing Our Roots” program of the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice (ACIJ), parents traveled from the state of Veracruz to Birmingham, Ala. where their children and grandchildren were waiting anxiously.
In a full room, 18 families were reunited. The grandparents were greeted with flowers and balloons from their grandchildren, whom they had never seen before in person.
The coordinated work between the “Embracing Our Roots” programs of ACIJ and “Con Raíces Veracruzanas” aims to bring together families of parents that have not seen their children in years because they cannot travel to Mexico due to their immigration status.
The event was attended by Mr. Carlos Calderón, general director of Atención e Información a Migrantes of the State of Veracruz, who coordinates the program in Mexico.
This is the first group that “Embracing Our Roots” has received in Alabama and is working on the formation of groups from other states of Mexico. ACIJ will be offering information sessions about this program in different cities of the State of Alabama, so that more families can benefit from this family reunification program.
