El Dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe es una importante celebración mexicana
COSTA DEL GOLFO – Los católicos celebraron el Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe o la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe la semana pasada. Una fiesta nacional en México, el 12 de diciembre conmemora el día en que se dice que la Virgen María se apareció a un niño indígena, Juan Diego, en el 1531.
Las celebraciones suelen incluir un tiempo de oración y fanfarria. En México y comunidades en los EE. UU., las festividades incluyen presentaciones de baile que representan a la diversa población de México, desfiles y fuegos artificiales. En la Costa del Golfo, los creyentes celebran el día lo mejor que pueden con lo que está disponible.
En Pensacola, las celebraciones se llevaron a cabo en El Gallo Latin Market y en residencias privadas el 11 de diciembre. Las tradicionales celebraciones de medianoche se llevaron a cabo en la Iglesia Católica St. John y en la Iglesia Católica Santa Rosa de Lima en Milton, donde los matachines del condado de Walton hicieron una presentación. La Iglesia de San Patricio en Robertsdale, Alabama, ofreció bailes folclóricos típicos.

Ella representa la fuerza porque ella sí a tener a Jesús y eso es algo muy valiente y fuerte,” dijo Luisa Derreza, de 17 años, quien asistió a la celebración en El Gallo con sus padres. “Ella hizo algo tan hermoso a una edad tan temprana,” agregó Derreza. “Ella también hizo lo que se llama la Familia Divina. La Familia Divina es el modelo de familia, el modelo más grande de amor, y ellos nos dan el ejemplo de cómo ser una gran familia y cómo debemos respetarnos unos a otros.”

GULF COAST – Catholics celebrated Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe or Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe last week. A national holiday in Mexico, December 12 commemorates the day when the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to an indigenous boy, Juan Diego, in 1531.
Celebrations usually include a time of prayer and fanfare. In Mexico and communities in the U.S., festivities include dance presentations representing the diverse population through Mexico, parades and fireworks. In the Gulf Coast, believers celebrate the day as best as they can with what is available.
In Pensacola, celebrations were held at El Gallo Latin Market and at private residences on December 11. Traditional midnight celebrations were held at St. John Catholic Church and at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church in Milton where matachines from Walton County made a presentation. St. Patrick’s Church in Robertsdale, Alabama offered typical folkloric dances.

“For me [the Virgen de Guadalupe] represents family. She represents strength because she said yes to carrying Jesus and that’s a very brave and strong thing to do,” said 17-year-old Luisa Derreza who attended the celebration at El Gallo with her parents. “She did such a beautiful thing at such as young age,” Derreza added. “She also made what is called the Divine Family. The Divine Family is the model of family, the greatest model of love, and they give us the example of how to be a great family and how we should respect one another.”
