El alcalde anuncia los primeros enlaces LGBTQ+ de Mobile
MOBILE, Ala. — Este mes, el alcalde Sandy Stimpson anunció el nombramiento de Michael Tyner y Natalie Fox como enlaces LGBTQ+ para su administración y los primeros en ocupar dichos cargos en la ciudad de Mobile.
En sus nuevos roles, Michael y Natalie trabajarán directamente con la administración del alcalde Stimpson para ayudar a garantizar que los líderes de la ciudad de Mobile tengan una perspectiva LGBTQ sobre las políticas y los servicios de la ciudad. También servirán como una voz importante para la comunidad, trabajando con grupos de defensa, empresas e individuos para transmitir las preocupaciones de los activistas LGBTQ+ directamente a la oficina del alcalde.
“Según todos los criterios, Mobile es una ciudad maravillosamente diversa, y queremos asegurarnos de tener las voces de toda la comunidad representadas en la mesa,” dijo el alcalde Stimpson. “Aprecio la voluntad de Michael y Natalie de servir en estos importantes roles. Sé que su participación ayudará a continuar fortaleciendo la relación que los miembros de la comunidad LGBTQ+ de Mobile tienen con el gobierno de su ciudad.”
La ciudad de Mobile coordinó el nombramiento de sus primeros enlaces LGBTQ+ con la Campaña de derechos humanos, que aboga por estas posiciones en comunidades de todo el país junto con otras políticas y leyes que protegen los derechos de los estadounidenses LGBTQ+. Establecer enlaces LGBTQ+ en Mobile también mejorará la calificación de la Ciudad en el Índice de Igualdad Municipal de HRC y ayudará a reclutar nuevas empresas y residentes para Mobile que valoran la igualdad y la inclusión LGBTQ+.
“A medida que más y más empresas internacionales se mudan a Mobile, hablo con personas LGBTQ+ que se mudan aquí para trabajar regularmente. Su primera pregunta es sobre la seguridad y la aceptación,” dijo Michael Tyner. “La realidad es que el sur no tiene una gran reputación por ser un hogar acogedor para las personas LGBTQ+. Es por eso que tantos jóvenes buscan en otra parte para ir a la universidad: quieren vivir en un lugar que sea abierto, diverso y con visión de futuro. Traer a las personas LGBTQ+ a la mesa, a través de este puesto de enlace, ayudará a hacer de nuestra ciudad un lugar mejor para los negocios, para los estudiantes y, lo que es más importante, para las personas que pasarán sus vidas aquí.”

Mayor announces Mobile’s first LGBTQ+ Liaisons
MOBILE, Ala. — This month, Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced the appointment of Michael Tyner and Natalie Fox as LGBTQ+ Liaisons to his administration and the first to hold such positions in the City of Mobile.
In their new roles, Michael and Natalie will work directly with Mayor Stimpson’s administration to help make sure leaders throughout the City of Mobile have an LGBTQ perspective on City policies and services. They will also serve as an important voice for the community — working with advocacy groups, businesses, and individuals to relay concerns from LGBTQ+ Mobilians directly to the mayor’s office.
“By all measures, Mobile is a wonderfully diverse city, and we want to make sure we have voices from across the community represented at the table,” Mayor Stimpson said. “I appreciate Michael and Natalie’s willingness to serve in these important roles. I know their involvement will help continue to strengthen the relationship members of Mobile’s LGBTQ+ community have with their city government.”
The City of Mobile coordinated the appointment of its first LGBTQ+ Liaisons with the Human Rights Campaign, which advocates for these positions in communities around the country along with other policies and laws that protect the rights of LGBTQ+ Americans. Establishing LGBTQ+ Liaisons in Mobile will also improve the City’s rating on HRC’s Municipal Equality Index and will help when recruiting new businesses and residents to Mobile who value LGBTQ+ equality and inclusiveness.
“As more and more international companies move into Mobile, I speak with LGBTQ+ people relocating here for work on a regular basis. Their number one question is about safety and acceptance,” said Michael Tyner. “The reality is that the south doesn’t have a great reputation for being a welcoming home to LGBTQ+ individuals. That’s why so many young people look elsewhere to go to college — they want to live in a place that’s open, diverse, and forward-thinking. Bringing LGBTQ+ people to the table, through this liaison position, will help make our city a better place for business, for students, and most importantly, for the people who will spend their lives here.”
“I know firsthand what it’s like to worry about how my identity will affect my acceptance in my community. It will be our job to make sure everyone feels not just safe and supported but celebrated for who they are.” Natalie Fox said.
