ECPS, Magdalene’s to host online safety event
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 1 priority of Escambia County Public Schools is to protect our students. And that’s why we are partnering with a local organization, Magdalene’s, Inc., in the fight against human trafficking, to offer a free educational event about online safety. This event is designed for parents, guardians, and school staff, as well as all other members of the community.
Playing It Safe: Exposing Dangers in Our Digital World will feature experts, including local law enforcement officers and school district leaders, sharing about risks our children face online. Dr. Andrew Doan, an expert in media addictions, as well as local law enforcement officers and school leaders, will take a candid look at what’s happening on the other side of our youth’s screens, plus the protections currently in place within our school district.
With over 500,000 predators online at any given time, kids who access the internet are at risk, including smartphone usage, gaming, doing homework online, or anything that involves the web. Perpetrators comb the internet all day every day, seeking to target children.
The community is invited to this free educational event on October 13 or 15 (same event with two date options) to learn more about the risks and how to protect what matters most – our kids. We are pleased to present this opportunity to shed light on how to protect our children and prevent online exploitation. Plus guests will learn how to respond if they do spot suspicious activity.
This event will offer valuable information for parents, grandparents, educators, and all other concerned citizens. Content is sensitive and intended for ages 13 and up.
Seating is limited; registration is encouraged. To register, go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/playing-it-safe-exposing-dangers-in-our-digital-world-tickets-1988519613694 for October 13 or click https://www.eventbrite.com/e/playing-it-safe-exposing-the-dangers-in-our-digital-world-tickets-1988520219506 for October 15.
