Chefs latinos obtienen máximos honores en Pensacola

Chefs receive WSRE Wine and Food AwardPENSACOLA, Fla. – Dos chefs latinos se llevaron a casa los máximos honores del WSRE Wine & Food Classic en Pensacola. El evento de temática latina cerró el Mes de la Herencia Hispana en Pensacola el 15 de octubre frente al Studer Community Institute. La Costa Latina fue uno los patrocinadores del evento.

Patricia Rojas, propietaria de Chile Lindo, recibió el premio de Mejor Chef y el chef venezolano Manuel Rodríguez de Innisfree Hotels, recibió el premio People’s Choice Award. Otros chefs latinos que participaron en el evento fueron Joe’s Caribe y Conchitas Personal Chef and Catering, LLC. Cada participante presentó muestras de comidas seleccionadas por las que votaron los patrocinadores. Rojas y Rodríguez exhibieron exquisitas versiones de ceviche y costillas respectivamente.

“Yo no soy chef,” dijo Rojas mientras aceptaba humildemente su premio. “Solo uso la receta de mi mamá.”

El evento anual es una recaudación de fondos para WSRE, la filial local de PBS que ofrece programación educativa que incluye Sesame Street, Finding Your Roots y Antiques Road Show. La invitada célebre y jueza del evento, Alejandra Ramos, entregó los premios. Ramos es presentadora del programa The Great American Recipe de PBS y es colaboradora de comida y estilo de vida para el TODAY Show.

Latino chefs take top honors in Pensacola

Chef displaying prepared foodPENSACOLA, Fla. – Two Latino chefs took home top honors at the WSRE Wine & Food Classic in Pensacola. The Latin themed event closed out Hispanic Heritage Month in Pensacola on October 15 outside the Studer Community Institute. La Costa Latina was a sponsor for the event.

Patricia Rojas, owner of Chile Lindo was given the Best Chef Award, and Venezuelan Chef Manuel Rodriguez of Innisfree Hotels, was handed the People’s Choice Award. Other Latino chefs that participated in the event were Joe’s Caribe and Conchitas Personal Chef and Catering, LLC. Each participant presented samples of selected food entries which patrons voted for. Rojas and Rodriguez showcased exquisite versions of ceviche and short ribs respectively.

“I am not a chef,” Rojas said as she humbly accepted her award. “I just use my mom’s recipe.”

The annual event is a fundraiser for WSRE, the local PBS affiliate that provides educational programing including Sesame Street, Finding Your Roots and Antiques Road Show. Celebrity guest and judge for the event, Alejandra Ramos, presented the awards. Ramos is the host of PBS’s show The Great American Recipe and is a food and lifestyle contributor on the TODAY Show.
