Estudiantes locales protestan contra ICE

Ante la reciente escalada violenta e incontrolable del Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas (ICE), como comunidad y como la próxima generación de votantes, nos negamos a quedarnos de brazos cruzados mientras se violan y arrebatan los derechos constitucionales y de nacimiento de las personas.
El 30 de enero, un grupo de estudiantes protestó pacíficamente frente a la escuela secundaria Pine Forest. El grupo coreó consignas contundentes como “NO a ICE – NO al KKK – NO a un EE. UU. fascista” y exhibió pancartas, expresando su mensaje de forma clara y contundente. Los estudiantes también protestaron en la escuela secundaria Pensacola.
Los administradores de la escuela Pine Forest han sancionado a los estudiantes que participaron en la protesta con suspensiones dentro y fuera del plantel por abandonar las clases y ejercer su derecho a la libertad de expresión, de prensa y de reunión pacífica, amparado por la Primera Enmienda.
Lo mejor de todo es que los estudiantes decidieron tomar cartas en el asunto por sí mismos. Esta marcha se realizó para protestar contra las ejecuciones y los castigos infligidos a los manifestantes por parte de ICE, así como contra la negatividad dirigida hacia la comunidad inmigrante.
El periódico The Guardian afirma que “Ocho personas han muerto en incidentes con ICE en lo que va de 2026”. Innumerables personas también han muerto en cárceles o centros de detención debido a la desnutrición, las condiciones deplorables y el trato inhumano. ¿De dónde proviene todo esto? ¿Cómo es posible que quienes supuestamente deben proteger a la población extralimiten sus funciones y no rindan cuentas por ello? Es porque saben que no habrá consecuencias mientras la persona en el poder permanezca en su cargo.
La mayoría, si no todos, los estudiantes que participaron en la protesta son hijos o tienen familiares inmigrantes. Una estudiante declaró que su familia tiene amigos y parientes cercanos que emigraron de su país de origen en busca de refugio de una dictadura. Otros que emigran a este país sacrifican mucho más de lo que ganan; no tienen los mismos privilegios que la mayoría y, con el tiempo, prosperan gracias a su arduo trabajo.
¿Acaso “libertad y justicia para todos” no es lo que este país debería representar?
Innumerables familias se han visto afectadas por las deportaciones masivas, de una forma u otra. Las invasiones de hogares y calles, las redadas nocturnas y la violación de derechos. Con el tiempo, puede volverse inevitable que uno se quede de brazos cruzados, olvidando todo.
Local students protest ICE

With the recent violent and out of control escalation of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as a community and the next generation of voters, we refuse to sit back and watch as their constitutional and birth rights are being violated and stripped away.
On Jan. 30, a group of students peacefully protested outside of Pine Forest Highschool. The group chanted powerful words and slogans like “NO I.C.E.- NO KKK – NO FASCIST U.S.A,” and held up signs, making their point loud and clear. Students also protested at Pensacola Highschool.
School administrators at Pine Forest have given students that participated in the protest out-of-school and in-school suspension for leaving class and upholding their First Amendment right to freedom of speech, press and peaceful assembly.
The best part of it all is that the students decided to take matters into their own hands together. This march was done to protest the executions and punishment of protesters at the hands of ICE as well as the negativity directed toward the immigrant community.
The Guardian states “Eight people have died in dealings with ICE so far in 2026.” Countless have also died in jail or detentions due to malnourishment, terrifying conditions and jarring treatment. Where did it all come from? How are the ones who are supposed to protect the people able to completely overstep their line of duty and not be held accountable for it? It is because they know there will be no consequences as long as the person that is in power continues to stay there.
Most if not all of the students involved in the protest are children of or have family who are immigrants. One student stated that her family has close friends and relatives that migrated here from their homeland in search of refuge from dictatorship. Others who migrate to this country are sacrificing much more than they gain, they are not privileged like most and with time are thriving because of their hard work.
Is “liberty and justice for all” not what this country is supposed to stand for?
Countless families have been affected by the mass deportations, one way or another. The home and street invasions, the late-night raids and violation of rights. Eventually it may become inevitable for one to sit around so forgetfully.
