La Ciudad lanza un programa de diálogo cívico con Change.org
PENSACOLA, Fla. – En colaboración con Change.org, la plataforma líder mundial para el cambio social, la Ciudad de Pensacola está poniendo en marcha una iniciativa piloto llamada “Diálogos Cívicos” (Civic Dialogues) para identificar soluciones creativas e impulsadas por la comunidad ante los desafíos locales.
Desde el 3 de septiembre hasta el 12 de octubre, todos los residentes de Pensacola tendrán la oportunidad de compartir sus ideas para lograr un cambio positivo en la ciudad y responder a las sugerencias de sus vecinos a través del sitio web — civicdialogues.org/pensacola civicdialogues.org/pensacola. El sitio ya está activo.
Poco después, Change.org identificará los temas presentados que generen mayor interés entre los participantes y reunirá a un grupo de residentes de toda la ciudad para celebrar un debate virtual a mediados de noviembre, con el fin de convertir dichas ideas en propuestas viables.
A través de foros en línea y diálogos virtuales, la iniciativa ayudará a identificar qué es lo más importante para los residentes y dónde existen puntos de consenso; esta información será fundamental para que los responsables de la toma de decisiones puedan impulsar cambios. El alcalde D.C. Reeves se ha comprometido a revisar las propuestas resultantes de este proceso para evaluar cómo la Ciudad puede apoyarlas.
“Dependo de las voces de los residentes cada día para fundamentar las decisiones que se toman en su beneficio”, afirmó Reeves. “Participar en esta iniciativa piloto es una oportunidad emocionante para integrar a los residentes en la conversación. Es una herramienta más que utilizaremos al abordar decisiones presupuestarias, la asignación de recursos y la priorización de los servicios que los ciudadanos más desean recibir de su Ciudad.”
El programa de Diálogo Cívico es una nueva herramienta dentro de los esfuerzos continuos de la Ciudad por utilizar las aportaciones ciudadanas para orientar decisiones y prioridades clave. Esta iniciativa se suma a esfuerzos de participación específicos —como el Plan Estratégico “Strive to Thrive Pensacola 2035 Strategic Plan” y la Encuesta Anual de Satisfacción de Residentes realizada por el Centro Haas de la Universidad del Oeste de Florida (UWF)—, así como a las asambleas públicas, reuniones comunitarias y otros medios más tradicionales para recopilar la opinión de la ciudadanía.
Reeves señaló que, tras conocer las sesiones de Diálogo Cívico a través de colegas de la Conferencia de Alcaldes de EE. UU., quiso explorar esta opción para Pensacola. La organización colabora actualmente con alcaldes de ciudades como Tulsa (Oklahoma), Erie (Pensilvania), Kansas City (Misuri), Chattanooga y Jackson (Tennessee), Folsom (California) y Albuquerque (Nuevo México), entre otras. “Uno de los muchos beneficios de formar parte de la Conferencia de Alcaldes es la oportunidad de conocer cómo otros alcaldes están innovando en materia de acercamiento y participación ciudadana, y esta es una de esas herramientas,” señaló Reeves.

City Launches Civic Dialogue Program with Change.org
PENSACOLA, Fla. – In partnership with Change.org, the world’s leading platform for social change, the City of Pensacola is piloting a new initiative called Civic Dialogues to identify creative, community-driven solutions to local challenges.
From Sept. 3 until Oct. 12, all Pensacola residents will have the opportunity to share their ideas for positive change in Pensacola and respond to their neighbors’ suggestions at the Civic Dialogues website — civicdialogues.org/pensacola. The site is live now.
Shortly afterward, Change.org will identify the submitted topics that resonate most with all participants and assemble a group of residents from across the city for a virtual discussion in mid-November to develop them into actionable proposals.
Through online forums and virtual dialogues, Civic Dialogues will help identify what matters most to residents and points of consensus, which serve as critical information that policymakers can use to drive change. Mayor D.C. Reeves has committed to reviewing the proposals that emerge from this process to see how the City might support them.
“I rely on the voices of residents very day to help inform the decisions made in their interest,” Reeves said. “Being part of the pilot of this effort is an exciting opportunity to help bring residents into the conversation. This is another tool to use as we look at budget decisions, resource allocation decisions, and prioritizing the services citizens most want from their City.”
The Civic Dialogue program is a new tool in the City’s ongoing efforts to use citizen input to guide key decisions and priorities. It sits alongside the Strive to Thrive Pensacola 2035 Strategic Plan and the annual Resident Satisfaction Survey conducted by the University of West Florida’s Haas Center as focused outreach efforts, in addition to town halls, community meetings and other more traditional means of gathering citizen input.
Reeves noted that when he learned about Civic Dialogue sessions from colleagues at the U.S Conference of Mayors, he wanted to explore it as an option in Pensacola. The organization is working with mayors in Tulsa, Okla., Erie, Pa., Kansas City, Mo., Chattanooga and Jackson, Tenn., Folsom, Calif., and Albuquerque, N.M., among others.
“One of the many benefits of being part of the Conference of Mayors is the opportunity to find out how other mayors are innovating in terms of citizen outreach and engagement, and this is one of those tools,” Reeves said.
