MCHD lleva a cabo un evento de inauguración para las renovaciones de WIC en Citronelle
CITRONELLE, Ala. — El Departamento de Salud del Condado de Mobile (MCHD) llevó a cabo un evento de inauguración en febrero para reconocer las renovaciones completadas en su oficina de Mujeres, Bebés y Niños (WIC) en 19255 North Main Street en Citronelle.
“La misión de WIC es aumentar la conciencia entre las mujeres embarazadas, las mujeres que amamantan, las mujeres que tuvieron un bebé en los últimos seis meses, los bebés y los niños menores de 5 años, sobre la necesidad de equilibrar la ingesta de alimentos y la actividad física diaria, promover el aumento de la ingesta de frutas y verduras y aumentar la conciencia de los beneficios de la lactancia materna,” dijo Monique McMillan, directora de nutrición del distrito.
“La Oficina de Servicios de Nutrición del Departamento de Salud del Condado de Mobile administra el programa WIC en el Condado de Mobile. Un promedio mensual de 10,690 participantes recibieron instrumentos alimentarios de WIC durante el año del informe 2024. Citronelle WIC atendió a un promedio de 466 participantes por mes en 2024.”
La encargada de cortar la cinta fue Loretta Presnell, que representa al Distrito 3 en el Ayuntamiento de Citronelle. La acompañó el concejal del Distrito 5, Joe Beaty.
“Cuando era alcalde, hice todos los trámites para que el Departamento de Salud del Condado de Mobile abriera una clínica WIC en Citronelle,” dijo Presnell, quien recibió un recorrido por las instalaciones por parte de la gerente de la clínica, Ginger Stabler. “Estoy muy feliz de haber ayudado en ese entonces y de estar presente hoy.”
“Este es un lugar muy concurrido, siempre hay alguien aquí, me alegra que WIC esté en Citronelle con su hermoso edificio renovado.”
Para calificar para WIC, una persona debe cumplir con las pautas de ingresos, ser residente de Alabama y haber sido atendida por un profesional de la salud en la clínica WIC.

MCHD conducts ribbon-cutting event for Citronelle WIC renovations
CITRONELLE, Ala. — The Mobile County Health Department (MCHD) conducted a ribbon-cutting event in February to recognize the renovations completed at its Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) office at 19255 North Main Street in Citronelle.
“WIC’s mission is to increase awareness among pregnant women, breastfeeding women, women who had a baby within the last six months, infants and children under the age of 5 years of the need to balance food intake and daily physical activity, to promote increasing the intake of fruits and vegetables and to increase
awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding,” said Monique McMillan, the District Nutrition Director.
“The Mobile County Health Department’s Office of Nutrition Services manages the WIC program in Mobile County. A monthly average of 10,690 participants received WIC food instruments during the 2024 reporting year. Citronelle WIC served an average of 466 participants per month in 2024.”
Cutting the ribbon was Loretta Presnell, who represents District 3 on the Citronelle City Council. She was joined by District 5 Councilman Joe Beaty.
“Back when I served as mayor, I did all of the paperwork to have the Mobile County Health Department open a WIC clinic in Citronelle,” said Presnell, who received a tour of the facility by clinic manager Ginger Stabler. “I am so happy to have helped back then and to be present today.
“This is a very busy place. There is always someone here. I’m glad WIC is in Citronelle with their beautiful, renovated building.”
To qualify for WIC, a person must meet income guidelines, be a resident of Alabama, and have been seen by a health professional at the WIC clinic.
The stand-alone WIC facility in Citronelle is part of a MCHD complex that includes medical and dental services at 19250 North Mobile Street. The WIC clinic is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 251-690-8829 or visit https://mchd.org/wic.
Another new addition to the WIC facility is a healthcare kiosk that offers free naloxone kits and condoms. It is the fifth one placed in Mobile County.
